GENERAL INFORMATION:
Our Arts In Action summer camps are multi-disciplinary full day (9:00 am - 5:00 PM, Monday - Thursday) arts camps for children ages 5 to 11. Each session includes classes in art, dance, drama, music, clay, and magic to let campers "get their feet wet" in these different areas of the arts. All of our arts instructors are teaching artists and professionals who are continually honing their craft though out the rest of the year. Arts In Action makes the arts fun and engaging with games and creative projects. Each session of camp features a unique theme.

FrequenTly Asked Questions:
What should my child wear to camp?
For their safety, please send your child in comfortable, closed-toed shoes (no sandals/crocs/slides) and “play clothes". Your child may want to participate in our dress up days (listed in the camp guide). Please send a set of “paint clothes” or an apron every day for your child to change into or to throw on over their clothes for art class. Weather permitting, we may go out to the playground in our park for about 15 minutes.
What does my child need to bring to camp?
Everyone should bring a water bottle (with their name on it!) every day. They will be able to refill their water bottle throughout the day as needed. They should also bring a set of paint clothes and a packed lunch. We will
have a “quiet hour” after lunch to wind down and watch a movie before resuming afternoon classes; You
may want to send a pillow/blanket or sleeping bag to leave at camp for your child to use during quiet
hour. Please label all personal items with your child’s name! We end up with so many lost and found
items.

Do I need to pack a lunch or snacks for my child?
Please send a packed lunch (that does not need to be heated) with your child each day. We provide two small snacks during the day, but you are welcome to send a different snack for your child if you prefer. There will be a
refrigerator available to store lunches. Don’t forget to pack a fork or spoon (if needed)! Make sure to label lunch bags with your child's name.

What does a typical day at camp look like?
After check-in, campers start the day with a warm up dance or game as a group, then split off into their groups and go to classes. Campers are divided into groups by age (unless they want to stay with a sibling/friend) for class rotations. Campers rotate through 30-min or 45-min classes in Art, Dance, Drama, and Music for the morning, with a small snack mid-morning. Campers all have lunch together, followed by "quiet time" where we stretch out on the floor with a pillow and blanket and watch videos or a movie. Afternoon classes resume the rotation, then an afternoon snack, more classes, and finally group games until pickup time. Camp is about learning and being creative, but it's also about having fun, so if we find that the campers are getting antsy, we shorten classes or add in extra game time or a surprise activity to keep everyone engaged. We try to keep it structured, but flexible.
Tell me more about some of your "Bonus" classes?
Campers will spend the most time in our four core classes; Art, Dance, Drama, and Music. Each camp will have a few different bonus classes or activities, depending on which week they attend. All camp sessions will include a Clay component, which includes two classes: one to create a ceramic piece of art, and one to glaze it. They also all include a Magic demonstration, where our Drama teacher will show campers some card and coin magic. In the past, we've had a balloon artist, a mime, a few orchestra members, some wildlife rehab volunteers and their animal co-workers, a few circus performers, and a harpist share their arts and expertise with us. You never really know who's going to drop by camp and teach us something new!
What's the difference between the different sessions? can my child attend more than one?
While all of the sessions teach most of the same core content and basic concepts, we feel that there is enough variety for campers to take two sessions - or even three - if desired. While the foundation is the same for each camp session, the different themes will sculpt how we teach the main content. The bonus classes and activities will also vary from session to session. And because every session has a unique combination of campers, you're going to get a different creative experience because of what each camper adds to the group.
