GCT announces it's 2012-2013 Season

The Greer Children’s Theatre proudly announces its 2012-2013 Season

The Greer Cultural Arts Council is excited to invite you to kick-off our 2012 – 2013 theatre season with a free production for the entire family brought to you by our Camp ARK (Arts Reaching Kids) participants.  Join our campers as they rock-n-roll you through your nouns and conjunctions in “School House Rock Live! Jr.”( Originally Conceived and Directed by Scott Ferguson, Book by Scott Ferguson, Kyle Hall, George Keating, Music and Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, Bob Dorough, Dave Fishberg, Kathy Mandry,George Newall and Tom Yobe) This show will entertain your family for two weeks in September.

Then the Greer Children’s Theatre will take over the rest of the season as they open with “Charlotte’s Web”( by Joseph Robinette, adapted from the book by E. B White).  All the enchanting characters are here: Wilbur, the irresistible young pig who desperately wants to avoid the butcher; Fern, a girl who understands what animals say to each other; Templeton, the gluttonous rat who can occasionally be talked into a good deed; the Zuckerman family; the Arables; and, most of all, the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be "a true friend and a good writer." Determined to save Wilbur, Charlotte begins her campaign with the "miracle" of her web in which she writes, "Some pig."  This show will hit the stage in late October and early November.

GCT will leave the farm so they can take you back to Rydell High, 1959.  Join the duck-tailed, hot-rodding "Burger Palace Boys" and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking "Pink Ladies" in bobby sox and pedal pushers in “GREASE (Book, Music, and Lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey) Come join Danny Zuko and (new girl) Sandy Dumbrowski on our main stage in mid February 2013.

Ah, what fools these mortals be! A Midsummer’s Night Dream,( Adapted by Wade Bradford, music and lyrics by Rachel Green and Wade Bradford), will take the stage late April and early May, 2013. Whimsically adapted from Shakespeare's classic romantic comedy, this musical features the usual magical forest and spellbound lovers.  There is also an upstart Puck who decides to liven things up by modernizing the dialogue and adding song and dance numbers.

Make sure you make plans to join GCT for our 2012 – 2013 season.  All audition, show, and ticketing information can be located at www.greerculturalarts.com.

Oil Painting Class offered

Traditional Oil Painting/The Still-Life with Nancy Jaramillo

Beginner to Intermediate(refresher course)

During the four part series, students will be taught classical oil painting techniques using traditional materials to paint a still-life.

There will be four sessions comprising the series, each one lasting four weeks and each one with a new still-life set-up.

Students will meet once weekly for 21/2 hours and for four consecutive weeks, completing one 14” x 18” still life painting each session.

The four week sessions will increase in intensity and complexity, in order to reinforce newly learned skills. The still-life set-up will range from a grouping of inanimate objects, to an arrangement of fruits & vegetables, to an expressive floral composition.  The final session in the series will be a bit different in that the student will work from a full color reproduction of a master painter’s still-life painting.

Where: Greer Recreation Center 226 Oakland Ave

When: Thursdays- May 3-22, 2012 from 6:00-8:30 pm

Cost:   $95.00 per 4 week session- most materials are included, with the exception of oil painting canvases, for the first 4wk session. I will demonstrate how to begin a painting, and provide hands on experience with materials before students purchase their own art supplies

Class size: Max 10 Min 4
